Fire crews have been dealing with a major warehouse fire in Bacup after a blaze broke out during the early hours of the morning. Emergency services were called to the scene while it was still dark.
Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service said the fire started shortly before 01.45 GMT at Bacup Shoe Direct on Railway Street in Stacksteads. The scale of the incident required a large response from crews across the area.
At the height of the operation, ten fire engines were in attendance as firefighters worked to bring the major warehouse fire under control. By around 11.00, small pockets of fire were still burning and crews remained on site.
The fire service confirmed it expected to stay at the location for the rest of the day to fully extinguish the fire and ensure the area was safe. Dampening down and monitoring work continued throughout the morning.
A number of road closures were put in place due to the major warehouse fire, including Railway Street and Newchurch Road. Residents living nearby were advised to keep windows closed as a precaution.
No injuries have been reported in connection with the incident. The cause of the fire has not been confirmed.
