More than 3.7 million journeys were made with London North Eastern Railway in the first two months following the introduction of its biggest timetable change on the East Coast Main Line in more than 10 years.
Launched on 14 December 2025, the new timetable has delivered more frequent services, increased capacity on some of the most popular sections of the route, and greater choice for passengers travelling between London, the North East, Yorkshire and Scotland.
The overhaul includes nearly 10,000 additional services per year and more than 60,000 extra seats every week across the network. Customers are also benefiting from a wider range of lower-priced Advance fares, with one-way tickets starting from:
London – Edinburgh: £41.40
London – Newcastle: £34.90
London – Leeds: £28.60
London – York: £28.80
Journey times between London and Edinburgh have also been reduced, with travel between the two capital cities now taking around four hours and 10 minutes.
A key improvement is the introduction of an additional hourly service between Newcastle and London, offering quicker journeys and greater flexibility. The enhanced connectivity has helped drive a 28.8 per cent increase in journeys between the two cities compared with the same period last year.
