Planners are expected to approve redevelopment beneath the Tyne Bridge in Gateshead for the former By The River Brew Co site.
The riverside bar and street food venue closed in September 2024. Now, new plans are in place for major transformation work, after recommendations from Gateshead planning officers.
A final decision is due at a council meeting scheduled for 10:00 GMT today.
Under the plans, the existing shipping container structure that once housed the popular street food market will be replaced with a permanent building containing a new bar.
The redevelopment aims to revitalise the site’s position as a key leisure destination on the south bank of the River Tyne.
The project also includes a new bike shop and the conversion of another shipping container into a seasonal outdoor bar, located directly beneath the Tyne Bridge, creating a flexible year-round space for visitors.
The report given to Gateshead Council’s planning committee describes a new venue that will “enhance the existing cultural and commercial offer” of the area. It will also provide opportunities for “performance, events and external exhibitions.”
The By The River Brew Co redevelopment is expected to support Gateshead’s ongoing efforts to boost its riverside economy and strengthen its reputation as a hub for independent food, drink, and cultural experiences.
