A major build-to-rent scheme has received planning approval, paving the way for two striking residential towers overlooking the Liverpool waterfront.
The development, occupying the former Littlewoods computer centre at the junction of Old Hall Street and Leeds Street, will feature towers of 19 and 25 storeys and deliver 434 private rented homes. Packaged Living, in partnership with Affinius Capital, will bring forward the scheme, which includes a mix of one, two, and three-bedroom apartments.
Residents will benefit from extensive amenities, including lounges, co-working areas, a gym, and social spaces designed to foster community living.
Edwina Coward, development manager for Packaged Living, said: “We’re naturally very pleased with the outcome of today’s planning hearing and our thanks go to the committee for its backing. We’re excited to be bringing forward a landmark development at this prominent gateway site. An extensive public consultation unlocked the wisdom of the Liverpool public, and the outcome is very much a shared vision.”
Demolition of the redundant computer centre is expected to begin in early 2026, with construction scheduled to start in early 2027. The main contractor for the project will be announced in due course.
The site has a rich history, formerly home to the Blundell & Sons coal yard, which serviced barges on the Leeds–Liverpool Canal. The listed former lock-keepers’ cottages, now incorporated into the Radisson Blu hotel, remain as a reminder of the canal’s historical presence in the city centre.
