English National Ballet and English National Ballet School will take a new production of My First Ballet: Cinderella on a national tour this spring, offering an introduction to classical ballet for children aged three and above.
Running from 28 March to 31 May 2026, the tour opens at the New Victoria Theatre before visiting the Peacock Theatre and venues in Poole, York, Swindon and at Newcastle Theatre Royal.
First launched in 2012, the My First Ballet series has been seen by more than 370,000 people. This latest production adapts the familiar fairytale into a format designed for younger attention spans, with a running time of one hour and 20 minutes including an interval, a live narrator and a shortened arrangement of Prokofiev’s score.
Choreographed by George Williamson, the production is performed by students of English National Ballet School and dancers from the Graduate Artists Programme. The story centres on a nature-loving Cinderella living on the edge of an enchanted forest, navigating family upheaval before an invitation to a Garden Ball alters her circumstances.
Designer Rachael Canning’s sets and costumes incorporate puppetry and bold visual elements to create a clear, accessible stage world for younger audiences.
Aaron S. Watkin, Artistic Director of English National Ballet, said: “The My First Ballet series opens the doors of ballet to young audiences in such an exciting and accessible way. I’m thrilled that English National Ballet are taking this ballet on a national tour, inspiring a new generation of dance lovers across the country”.
Lynne Charles, Artistic Director of English National Ballet School, added: “Performing in My First Ballet is more than just dancing – it’s a chance for students to step into the spotlight and bring magical stories to life. They gain invaluable experience, get a taste of professional touring life while sharing their passion with young audiences. That’s a truly special experience.”
London performances at the Peacock Theatre will include Relaxed and BSL-interpreted shows as part of the My First Inclusive Ballet programme, alongside family workshops.
