With school holidays for many families across the North West beginning later this week, Liverpool John Lennon Airport (LJLA) is preparing for yet another busy festive season with Christmas family visits and new year getaways.
This is expected to be the Airport’s busiest festive season on record, with more than 200,000 passengers forecast to travel through LJLA over the Christmas and New Year holidays – an increase of 4% compared to last year.
Families from across the region will be travelling to a wide range of destinations, whether for an escape from winter into the much missed sun, a spot of winter sports, city breaks or to visit friends and relatives.
Destinations close to home are expected to be particularly popular for those visiting friends and family, including Belfast, Dublin and the Isle of Man. Winter sun destinations likely to see strong demand include Alicante, Tenerife, Malaga, Arrecife and Faro, while Amsterdam, Krakow, Geneva, Paris and Barcelona are set to be the busiest city destinations.
While delays are not anticipated, passengers travelling during peak periods are advised to allow extra time when passing through the Airport over the coming days.
Airport management are also reminding passengers that restrictions on liquids in hand luggage remain in place. Travellers are encouraged to think carefully about what they pack in their hand luggage before setting off for the Airport, particularly those carrying Christmas presents.
Following the installation earlier this year of the latest generation security screening equipment, electrical items such as laptops and tablets can now remain in hand luggage. Liquids and gels can also stay in hand luggage but must still be in containers of no more than 100ml.
To help minimise queues at security and avoid disappointment, passengers are advised to carry presents unwrapped if they are packed in hand luggage. Items such as Christmas crackers are not permitted by most airlines.
Robin Tudor, Head of PR at Liverpool John Lennon Airport, said:
“This could be our busiest festive period ever and we’re really looking forward to welcoming thousands of passengers to the airport as they take advantage of the convenience of flying hassle-free from Liverpool to a wide range of fantastic destinations.
“We are asking passengers travelling at peak times to allow a little extra time compared to normal and to arrive prepared, particularly by giving careful thought to what they are carrying in their hand luggage, as restrictions remain in place.”
Passengers travelling over the festive period are encouraged to plan ahead, arrive in good time and enjoy a smooth, convenient and stress-free start to their Christmas and New Year travels from Liverpool John Lennon Airport.
