Brightly coloured plastic ducks will soon be making waves on the River Tees as the annual Charity Duck Race returns to the Tees Barrage on Saturday 17 August.
Organised by Stockton-on-Tees Roundtable, the much-loved event will raise funds for SARA Animal Rescue and Daisy Chain.
A spokesman for Stockton-on-Tees Roundtable said: “We’re incredibly excited to welcome the community back to the Tees Barrage for another fantastic event.
“It’s a fun, family-friendly day, but more importantly, it helps us raise vital funds for two charities that make a real difference in our area.”
Now a firm favourite on the Teesside summer calendar, the race attracts visitors from across the region. Hundreds of sponsored ducks will be released into the water, with the fastest to cross the finish line securing its backer a £150 cash prize.
The race will take place in a safe, controlled section of the river rather than the main Tees, and all ducks will be collected afterwards to protect the environment.
The fun extends far beyond the race itself, with stalls, food vendors, and live entertainment creating a lively day out for all ages.
Each duck can be sponsored online at Stockton-on-Tees Roundtable’s Square site: http://srt35.square.site. All funds raised will go directly to the two chosen charities.
SARA Animal Rescue is dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming abandoned and mistreated animals, while Daisy Chain supports families affected by autism and neurodiversity through therapeutic and educational services.
Part of the nationwide Round Table organisation for men aged 18 to 45, Stockton-on-Tees Roundtable members combine social events with hands-on volunteering and community fundraising throughout the year.
The event is open to everyone, and early duck sponsorship is advised. Organisers encourage locals to take part by cheering on the race, enjoying the entertainment, or exploring the stalls and food options.
Those feeling lucky — or simply keen to support a good cause — are invited to sponsor a duck and head to the Tees Barrage on 17 August. It promises to be one of Stockton’s most uplifting summer events.
