Barrow Badgers Seeks Volunteers to Restart Children’s Wildlife Club

A children’s wildlife group in Barrow-in-Furness is looking for new volunteers after a shortage of helpers forced sessions to be paused. Barrow Badgers, which has run monthly for around two years, has not met since the summer following the departure of its main volunteer.

Ruth Alcroft, volunteer co-ordinator at Cumbria Wildlife Trust, said the club’s absence has affected children who regularly attended. The trust hopes the group can resume in the spring if it recruits up to five regular volunteers.

“We’re still in touch with the children and parents, and people have been asking about the next sessions,” Ms Alcroft said. The club caters to children aged six to 12 and currently has around six members.

Cumbria Wildlife Trust said volunteers should enjoy working with children and have an interest in nature, though no specialist expertise is required.
