UKSE Bursary Support for Teesside University Students Marks 50th Anniversary

Three Teesside University students have received financial support to help them progress through their studies after being awarded a bursary from UKSE. The organisation, a business support subsidiary of Tata Steel, is marking its 50th anniversary this year, with the bursaries forming part of its Community Support Fund activity.

Each bursary provides a payment of £1,000. The support is designed to help high achieving students succeed in their degree programmes and to strengthen the future skills pipeline needed by regional employers. The awards form a practical example of UKSE bursary support for Teesside University students at a time of growing demand for technical expertise.

The recipients are George Winspear, studying MEng (Hons) Civil Engineering; Hami Ahsan, studying BEng (Hons) Chemical Engineering; and Harry Passman, studying BEng (Hons) Instrumental and Control Engineering. All three are currently in their second year.

“This bursary will be a great help as I start the next stages of my course which I am really enjoying and I hope my career path will enable me to contribute to the success of Teesside industry in the future,” said Harry Passman. He added: “The bursary will help me purchase course material and software as well as contribute to vital travelling costs and I am very grateful to UKSE.”

UKSE regional manager Sarah Thorpe outlined the wider context of the funding. “UKSE has supported thousands of businesses in the past 50 years with finance and workspace to help them grow and create jobs. Our Community Support Fund backs a wide range of projects for people of all ages and needs in our steel communities. We recognise that businesses need the vital skills that Teesside University and others are helping to provide and are delighted to be able to offer these bursaries for such promising students.”

Teesside University development officer Helen Jamison said the institution welcomed the contribution. “We are very grateful for UKSE’s generous support. A financial boost like this can have a real impact on students and their studies.”

The ongoing partnership highlights how UKSE bursary support for Teesside University students contributes to regional skills development and encourages ambition across engineering disciplines.
