Filtronic Secures £11m Defence Sensor Contract for Next Phase of Programme

AIM-listed electronics manufacturer Filtronic has been selected to advance to the next stage of a long-running electronic sensor programme for a defence project, in a contract with a total expected value of £11m.

The company has received an authorisation to proceed for around £7m from a major European defence customer, allowing work to begin ahead of purchase order conversion in the first quarter of 2026. Production will take place at Filtronic’s new secure, automated microelectronics facility in Sedgefield, County Durham.

Nat Edington, chief executive of Filtronic, said: “This latest win deepens our engagement with a key European defence customer and strengthens Filtronic’s position in the defence sector, a growing market for the Group. As we invest in capability and capacity, Filtronic is increasingly well positioned to support long-term demand for advanced RF solutions in the defence market.”

The contract covers a two-year programme and marks a significant expansion of Filtronic’s involvement in defence electronics. The firm’s head office is in Sedgefield, with additional operations in Leeds, Manchester and Cambridge. The selection underscores the company’s capabilities in producing secure and sophisticated microelectronics for defence applications, leveraging its automated production systems to meet high-demand technical standards.

Filtronic’s engagement in this programme follows a strategic focus on growth within the defence sector, where advanced RF and sensor technologies are increasingly critical. The company anticipates that the two-year programme will not only strengthen existing client relationships but also support future contract opportunities within Europe’s defence market.
