West Cumbria Magistrates’ Court Closes After Flooding

West Cumbria Magistrates’ Court in Workington was forced to close unexpectedly after flooding caused damage inside the building.

A burst pipe on the first floor landing, where the courtrooms are located, left tiles damaged and carpets soaked. Toilets were out of use, and the sound of running water could be heard from the affected area. Access to the main staircase was also blocked as a precaution.

All hearings scheduled for the day were suspended, and any cases not heard before the closure were adjourned.

A Ministry of Justice spokesperson confirmed that no further hearings would be affected. They said: “We apologise for any inconvenience caused.”

The closure was implemented on health and safety grounds to ensure the wellbeing of staff and visitors.
