Taylor Wimpey Manchester has made a foodbank donation to the Trussell Trust Farnworth and Kearsley Foodbank in Bolton, providing additional support to the charity during the festive period.
The donation follows a collection held at Taylor Wimpey’s head office in Stretford and will be used to help ensure emergency food parcels remain available for people in need across Bolton. The Farnworth and Kearsley Foodbank is located close to Taylor Wimpey’s Lever Valley development and serves local families and individuals experiencing hardship.
Trussell, still formally registered as the Trussell Trust, is a UK charity and NGO working to end the need for food banks nationwide. Shaped by Christian principles, it supports a large network of food bank centres that provide emergency food alongside practical and compassionate support, while also campaigning for long-term solutions to poverty. Since beginning work in the UK in 2000, the charity has supported millions of people with food parcels, vouchers and advice. In the last year alone, it distributed 2.9 million emergency food parcels across the country.
Rachel Barber, Sales and Marketing Director at Taylor Wimpey Manchester, said: “We’re proud to support the communities we build, and the Trussell Trust plays a vital role in supporting local families and individuals during hardships.
“…it has been incredible to see how the Trussell Trust has supported the people of Bolton over the years. At Taylor Wimpey, we are committed to continuing our support for organisations that make such a difference to the wider community.”
The Farnworth and Kearsley Foodbank forms part of Trussell’s national network, which is supported by tens of thousands of volunteers operating across more than a thousand locations. Donations from businesses and individuals help maintain supplies and ensure foodbanks can respond quickly when demand rises.
Deborah Opadijo, Foodbank manager at the Trussell Trust Farnworth and Kearsley Foodbank, said: “At the Trussell Trust, we believe that no one in the United Kingdom should need a foodbank to survive.
“We are made up of 36,000 volunteers across 1,400 food bank locations. We rely on the support and generosity of our volunteers, as well as individuals and companies, such as Taylor Wimpey, who provide us with food or financial donations to help those in need. We are very grateful for this donation, especially so close to Christmas.”
Founded in 1997, Trussell began its work overseas before opening its first UK food bank in Salisbury in 2000. While it continues to provide immediate help through foodbanks, the charity also focuses on addressing the underlying causes of poverty, with the aim of ending the need for emergency food provision in the long term.
