Tameside Arts Centre is offering a free creative course to local people who are not currently working this September.
Running for 12 weeks from Wednesday 17th September 2025, Get Creative at The Vale in Mossley is giving access to a range of creative skills to everyone aged 16+, living in Tameside without employment, in a relaxed and friendly environment.
This has been organised by Carnival arts organisation Global Grooves, who are giving participants the chance to work together in a range of activities – including mask and costume making, and textiles creation – which can contribute to a public art event.
The course will run until Wednesday 10th December 2025, where organisers have assured that no one needs previous experience to join the course and are particularly keen to hear from people over the age of 50.
To note: those who are self-employed and only working part-time are also eligible to sign up.
58-year-old Jayne McLean Kremer, lives in Mossley and has unfortunately been out of work for many years due to caring responsibilities. After taking part in a similar free course in 2021, and ‘getting back in the saddle’, she has now gone on to set up her own business, Good Earth Community, which is doing very well.
As a former park ranger, she is using her social enterprise to take on people to not only help out with her work but also create community permaculture gardens that get people of all ages involved with nature.
She said: “After many years out of paid employment, spent caring for family members, I felt like my skills were out of date and my confidence low.
“It was so good just to get out there and meet nice, friendly people and learn some new skills. I met people of all ages and backgrounds and made some really good connections that have helped me to start working for myself. For me, making the decision to sign up for a free course at The Vale was the start of something really big.”
