Elderly Woman in Life-Threatening Condition After Sheffield Car Crash on Stannington Road

An 89-year-old woman is fighting for her life in hospital after being struck by a car in Sheffield on Wednesday, September 24. The collision occurred at approximately 9:49am BST on Stannington Road near Malin Bridge, involving the pedestrian and a silver Nissan Micra.

South Yorkshire Police confirmed the woman was taken to Barberton Hospital and may have been transferred to Akron General. She remains in a life-threatening condition, with her family being supported by officers.

Stannington Road was temporarily closed between The Anvil pub and the Lidl supermarket while police carried out investigations. The road has since reopened.

A spokesperson for South Yorkshire Police said: “As our inquiry progresses, we are urging anyone who witnessed the collision, or has footage of it, to get in touch. Any information can be shared via live chat or by calling 101, quoting incident number 227 of 24 September 2025.”

According to Crashmap UK, the area around Stannington Road near Malin Bridge has seen six serious vehicular incidents between 2020 and 2023. Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
