Chapel St Leonards By-Election details confirmed

Residents of the Chapel St Leonards ward are preparing to take part in the Chapel St Leonards by-election 2025, which will be held on Thursday, 13 November. The election follows a resignation on East Lindsey District Council and will determine who represents the ward on the local authority.

The list of candidates standing in the by-election has been confirmed by East Lindsey District Council. Those hoping to be elected are Jason Boswell (Independent), Carole Irene Clark (Labour Party), Paul Sutton (Reform UK), David Brian Tucker (Liberal Democrats), Alan Vassar (Local Conservatives) and Valerie Anne Worley (Independent).

Returning Officer Rob Barlow said: “The by-election is for eligible voters in the Chapel St Leonards ward following a resignation on the Council. If you live in the ward – which includes Anderby, Chapel St Leonards and Hogsthorpe – now is the time to check you are registered to vote and to apply for a free Voter Authority Certificate if you have not got any other form of photo ID.

“You can also apply for postal votes or to vote by proxy if you know you will not be able to make it to the polling station on November 13th. Please check the important dates below to help ensure you are ready to vote.”

Voters in Hogsthorpe should be aware of a polling station change for this election. The usual location will be unavailable, and those affected will now need to vote at the Village Hall on Sea Road in Chapel St Leonards. Poll cards will contain full details of the polling station, and the Council will be writing directly to those impacted by the change.

Residents not currently registered to vote, or those who have recently changed their name or address, are encouraged to register in good time.

Registration can be completed online at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote and takes only five minutes. The deadline to register is midnight on Tuesday, 28 October 2025.

Anyone wishing to vote by post must apply before 5pm on Wednesday, 29 October 2025. Applications require a National Insurance number, date of birth and a clear signature.

Postal vote applications can be completed online at www.gov.uk/apply-postal-vote or by requesting a paper form from elections@e-lindsey.gov.uk.

Voters attending a polling station must present valid photographic ID. Accepted forms include a UK, EEA or Commonwealth passport, a UK, EEA or Commonwealth driver’s licence, or certain concessionary travel passes such as an older person’s bus pass. Expired ID will still be accepted if the voter is recognisable from the photograph.

Those without an accepted form of ID can apply for a free Voter Authority Certificate at www.voter-authority-certificate.service.gov.uk by 5pm on Wednesday, 5 November 2025.

The deadline for proxy vote applications is also 5pm on Wednesday, 5 November 2025. Forms must be submitted to East Lindsey District Council, The Hub, Mareham Road, Horncastle, LN9 6PH.

Key dates for the Chapel St Leonards by-election 2025 are as follows: the last date to register to vote is Tuesday, 28 October; postal vote applications close on Wednesday, 29 October at 5pm; the deadline for Voter Authority Certificates and proxy votes is Wednesday, 5 November at 5pm; and polling day takes place on Thursday, 13 November between 7am and 10pm.
